Eco Idle (Start-Stop) Car Battery, Why It Is More Expensive?

If you are searching for Eco Idle car battery, this is probably your first car with the Idle Start-Stop function right? Either the new elegant Perodua Myvi or the Bezza Advance. Yup you are at the right place. In this article, we will briefly explain what is the Eco Idle system and why does it need a different type of battery to operate (and why is it more expensive!).

As a car owner, it is definitely crucial for you to understand how it works so that you may be able to diagnose any issue if anything were to happen in the future. Let’s get started!

Eco Idle System, What It Is?

Eco Idle is Perodua’s term for Start-Stop System, but don’t confuse it with your push start button. That is not a start-stop system (although ‘start stop’ is written on top of the button). Start Stop system is a system where when your car idles (complete stop), stopping at a traffic light for example, the engine will shut off momentarily and it will automatically restart when you release the brakes.

The system is meant to save petrol while your car is not moving. Such a great thing to have in a Perodua car! This technology is usually available only in a >RM100k worth of car. Even the Malaysian’s favorite Honda Civic does not offer this function. You should be proud to have it.

But of course, it comes with a setback. Your car starts more often than a normal car!

With a normal car, you probably start the car in the morning for work, going out for lunch, and traveling back to your home. That is 3-4 times a day. But with the Eco Idle system, your car engine would be restarted on every traffic light stop and even standstill traffic. Instead of 3-4 times, the battery will be used to start the car 10-15 times a day!

That is why the normal battery is not sufficient to support the Eco Idle system. It will damage the battery much sooner. As for this reason, you would need a different type of battery which is called Enhanced Flooded Battery (EFB).

The EFB type battery is slightly advance technology that supports more usage cycle, suitable with the Eco Idle system.
