A cracked windscreen is one of the most common car problems in Malaysia — and one of the easiest insurance claims you can make. Here's everything you need to know.
Does Windscreen Damage Affect My NCD?
No — windscreen claims do NOT affect your NCD. This is the most important thing to know. Windscreen claims are treated separately from other claims, so you can claim for windscreen damage without losing any NCD.
What's Covered?
Most comprehensive motor insurance policies in Malaysia include windscreen coverage as a standard benefit or affordable add-on. It typically covers:
- Windscreen (front glass)
- Rear windscreen
- Side windows
Some policies also cover sunroofs and panoramic glass, but check your policy for details.
How Much is the Coverage Limit?
Windscreen coverage limits vary by policy. Common limits are RM500, RM1,000, RM1,500, or RM3,000. The coverage amount is usually listed separately on your policy document. If your windscreen costs more than your coverage limit, you pay the difference.
How to Make a Windscreen Claim
- Contact your insurance company or agent to report the damage
- They'll direct you to an approved panel workshop (or allow you to use your preferred one)
- The workshop replaces/repairs the glass and bills the insurer directly
- You may need to pay a small excess (usually RM100–RM200)
- Pick up your car — no NCD impact
Repair vs Replacement
Small chips and cracks under 15cm can often be repaired for RM50–RM150, preserving your coverage for future claims. Replacement is needed for large cracks or damage in the driver's line of sight. Always repair first if possible.
