As electric vehicles become more common in Malaysia, home EV charger installation is becoming a standard home upgrade. Here's what you need to know about costs.
Note: EV charger installation is handled by our sister company Carput ZAP. This article provides general information.
Types of Home EV Chargers
Level 1 (3.7kW AC) — Uses standard 16A socket. Slowest charging. Adds about 20–25km range per hour. No installation cost beyond the charger itself (RM800–RM2,000), but very slow for daily use.
Level 2 (7.4kW AC) — Most common for home installation. Adds 40–50km range per hour. Requires dedicated circuit installation. This is the recommended standard for most EV owners.
Level 2 (22kW AC, 3-phase) — Faster. Requires 3-phase power supply (not all homes have this). Adds 100+ km per hour.
